Playing soccer is a lot like building a house. One needs a sturdy foundation from which to build upon. Higher levels can only ever be achieved if your first touch building blocks are strong.

There is arguably no better way to improve one’s first touch then by learning to juggle the soccer ball.

While the professionals make juggling look so easy, they too, just like us, started at the ground floor. When it comes to juggling, everyone starts at one.

One of the Best

Juggling improves one’s comfort and confidence on the ball. If your child can settle a ball closer than his opponent or strike a ball cleaner than a teammate, more opportunities will come and go their way on the soccer pitch.

While juggling doesn’t guarantee stardom in the game, every star in our game can juggle.

How Does One Learn the Right Way to Juggle?

By breaking it down into manageable parts. Start simply with the drop juggle. And get that toe pointed out right. Of all the hundreds of videos on juggling out there, I like this one the best. Go ahead and watch it now, I’ll wait.

How Does One Measure Success Juggling?

By establishing small attainable goals. Ohio Soccer Association has put out a great graphic of 8 levels to master for a player just starting to juggle. It’s perfect for coaches and parents to use to help motivate and incentivize their beginning juggler.

Juggling a soccer ball is like riding a bike up a steep hill. At first, it’s really difficult. But soon, you get into a rhythm of pedaling. And when you’ve put in enough time and effort, you crest the hill and everything from then on is downhill.

Good luck!
